Keck Postdoctoral Research/Teaching Fellowships in Sciences/Mathematics

Bryn Mawr College, with support from the W.M. Keck Foundation, is continuing for academic year 2003-2004 a new program of postdoctoral research/teaching fellowships in science/mathematics. The program provides support for young scientists emerging from graduate programs with a traditional focus on research who want as well to make a strong commitment to teaching and to the mutually reinforcing benefits of teaching and research.

The undergraduate and graduate programs in the sciences/mathematics at Bryn Mawr College have a long history of high achievement in both teaching and research. Keck Postdoctoral Fellows will join this community for terms of three years, during which they will conduct research and teach (the equivalent of one course per semester) with strong faculty mentorship, and participate in programs aimed at further developing, for themselves and for the academic community at large, a respected and visible national community of "scientist/teachers".

The first two Fellows began their terms in Fall, 2001, and two additional Fellows were appointed in Fall, 2002. Two positions are now available for Fall, 2004. Fellowships will include a stipend of $40,000 a year, together with annual allowances of $5,000 for supplies and $1,000 for travel.

Fellowship opportunities are available in a wide array of areas within sciences/mathematics, as indicated on a list of College faculty offering Fellowship sponsorships. Interested young scientists/mathematicians should review this list and available additional information, and directly contact faculty with whom they would like to work. Applicants with interdisciplinary interests are encouraged to be in touch with, as appropriate, one or several potential sponsors.

• names of three references
• a description of research and teaching interests
• a brief statement of their views on how to best integrate research and undergraduate teaching
• a proposal for research/teaching at Bryn Mawr

Review of applications will begin December 1, with selected applicants being invited to visit the campus and present seminars by the end of January. Final decisions about the appointment of two Fellows for September 2004 will be made by early March.
