How can schools and colleges use new learning technologies to advance science interest and education among young women? How deal with key entry/persistance points, such as middle school?
Discussion Questions:
- What is the range of meanings of "new learning technologies"?
- What are the opportunities/downsides of new learning technologies, individually and collectively?
- Are there particular advantages/disadvantages of new learning technologies for young women?
- In what ways do new learning technologies encourage/require desireable changes in science pedagogy more generally?
- How can desireable changes be implemented in a coordinated fashion across the various educational levels?
- What are some examples of effective use of "new learning technologies" which could serve to both illustrate the current state of such usage and encourage additional developments?
Workshop objective:
- To create and make available an overview of "new learning technologies" in relation to science interest and education among young women.
- To create and make available a list of illustrative examples, with commentary on strengths and weaknesses.
- To generate and make available suggestions for how to best make use of new learning technologies in the future.
