During my research on Nike, I found that the very action of consumption is far more complicated than I have ever imagined. As globalization keeps prevailing the world, the effect of people’s action is hard to imagine. Also, because of the popularity and large scale of the company, our simple actions of consumption could have an impact on the whole economic and ecological system. When we are promoting our life quality and the whole economy, it costs a huge burden on the industrial chain, especially on the workers in factories and the couriers who delivers the goods. In economics perspective, the whole concept of economy is supported by people and market, though the economy could be stimulated in the short run, but it can never be controlled in the long run, it is a reflection of the masses’ will. So, we couldn’t simply blame on the companies that pursued the most profit and exploited the workers because they are driven by the will of consumers, which includes all of us. I would like to share my project with all the friends around me, encouraging them to be conscious of their consumption, reminding them of the ecological intelligence of consumption. Another thing I would like to know is to what extent the improvement of whole economy benefits those in the lower level of the industrial chain. In my opinion, the way we are developing isn’t healthy enough, because though it also benefits the poor, it is still increasing the inequality of society. From the projects of the others, I noticed that many actions in daily life could be defined as consumption with a contact zone behind it, from the pizzas we eat in the dining hall to the papers we print out in the library. And we should have more consciousness, be more ecologically intelligent in our daily consumption.
