4/5 Design Activism

I am struck by the mission and message of The Accessible Icon Project. The previous icon displays a certain passivity that isn't as conducive to the empowerment of those who identify as disabled. It represents an old viewpoint of disability that has since been updated to convey more sentiments aligned with disability culture and how the disabled wish to be represented. It shows an active participation in the experience of being disabled, echoing the phrase "nothing about us without us" to convey to any others with the sign that disability is as all life, ever growing and expanding with the times. What it means to be disabled is fluid and disability activism is only getting stronger. Conveying this with design is breathing life into an inaccessible world. It gives the message that disability is certainly a thing and the culture around it will continue to grow and create space for accessibility.
