During my ten week project, I realized that my class readings are not written by a diverse group of people in many different aspects. Race was by far the most unsettling statistic found. Although I wasn’t too surprised by the gender, social class, and education of many of the readers, I still think that it is important to have these people represented in our classroom. I think that we would be more understanding of our society if we had a more diverse selection of readings.
If I have the time next semester, I might look into the gender, class, race, and education of the writers of all of my other works. I am hoping to raise attention to the professors of my classes to let them be aware of what is lacking in their classrooms. I am hoping to raise attention to my professors because I think that the Bryn Mawr community would love to have diversity in the classroom environment.
