It was an icy night.
Anne had a fright.
Her friends stayed home.
She was alone.
She began to drink.
There were other drinks, for other drinkers.
But none were there.
They'd had a scare.
There were cherries and cheese.
She thought--oh, jeez!
These really do please.
Next was the soup: carrots and cream.
It was a dream.
Cornbread with bacon and cheese.

And oregano chicken--
all for the pickin'.
Peppers with salad--
'Twas like a ballad.
And then to close--
Get on your toes!--
It's gingerbread with lemon sauce.
What a loss, what a loss...
