Here Comes Mavo!

This is a preview of "Here Comes Mavo!" an animated TV series currently in the funding process. There's not a lot to go on because of how short the clip is, but ideally this show would both normalize deafness and help with language aquisition.

More information about this project can be found here: https://herecomesmavo.com/ and here: https://seedandspark.com/fund/here-comes-mavo#story

The Daily Moth also has a good video about the show and its goals which can be found here: https://seedandspark.com/fund/here-comes-mavo#story

I think that it is a step in the right direction that movies have started incorporating superheroes that do not always conform to societal norms. Makkari, a deaf speedster, is good for children to see in popular cinema (Marvel) and breaking these norms. It is also good that her powers are not directly tied to her deafness, as her speed has nothing to do with deafness. This is different from how media has often portrays disabled superheroes to have other enhanced senses to make up for their disability (ex: super-hearing blind hero). However, there is a scene where she reveals another power that illustrates that she can "sense the tiniest vibrations", including voice vibrations that she cannot hear, which slightly falls into the previously mentioned category of the media's portrayal of disabled superheroes.
