disability and immigration

What was really interesting in the reading was how culturally people went from understanding limb and physical ability diffrences as completely normal and accomidatable to viewing physical diffrence as a reason to exclude someone from entering the country even as industrialization and war ment more people where physiclly disabled. The complete double standard is baffeling. The same goes for today honestly. My partner is immigrating to the US and they have to be completely vaccinated and go through a physical, not to mention have confirmation they won't become a burden to the state. Why do we mandate vaccines for immigrants but not citizens? it seems like if we understand they work to keep disease out of the country vaccines would also work for keeping things like the flu at bay too. If we're going to dehumanize immigrants by implying they're all disease ridden then at the very least we could make sure we aren't giving them diseases in return.
