The student (and teacher and ...) as brain

The Brain - is wider than the Sky -
For - put them side by side -
The one the other will contain
With ease - and You - beside-

Thinking About Education in Terms of the Brain

From Discussion Following

Is the "tabula rasa" style of education an essential prelude to the looping style? Am I advocating complete "exploratory" education?

There ISN'T a maturational prerequisite for "exploratory" education (language learned that way)
There IS a need for structure to support exploratory education, its not enough to just put people in unknown environment.
Structure/environment do depend on "developmentally appropriate factors; one shouldn't try and educate people by allowing them to explore an atomic energy commission laboratory
One may need "tabula rasa" type education first if one wants people to be able to explore things that they are not yet equipped to explore (AEC laboratory)
But (from audience) using "tabula rasa" type education has a price, it lessens the ability/inclination of students to learn in looping mode.
