Mid-Semester Evaluation - Literary Kinds

Let's start with the good. I really do love this course, and the openness and freedom of the discussions is to be appreciated. We do have a good rapport in this class, despite the fact that there are so very many of us, and I think every single person in the class has valuable, intelligent, well-thought-out things to say.

I have already expressed, on more than one occasion, my concerns about permanent online forums, so there's no reason why I should say that again here. I'll suffice to say that there are ways of using online forums properly, and that I think the class has been, so far, doing just that. We still, howeve,r should keep an eye on the fact that we're stuck with this online legacy, whether we love it in the future or not, and I haven't gotten a tatoo for the very same reason that I'm considering changing my serendip screenname.  I do really like the online feedback, and the fact that we can get feedback on our work from both the professor and the students. Y'all's criticism and consideration is very valuable!

My biggest concern about the class arose from the way that we handled the last three class periods. I'm not thrilled with the syllabus that we've chosen for the next six weeks of school...but I didn't come to Bryn Mawr College to get my way all the time. You're going to call me old-fashioned, but I like the idea of the Professor, being the person with the most knowledge, experience, and training, making informed decisions about how the course will continue. I don't mind the idea of student feedback, but I do feel strongly that I'm here to learn from the masters, and that if Professor Dalke wants to teach Alice and Wonderland, I'm ready to learn what she's ready to tell me. I do wish that she'd taken the reigns a a little more when it came to these last few syllabus discussions. True, we were told to be careful not to get our hopes up, and yet I feel that spending three weeks essentially bickering about favorite books was...perhaps not the most efficient use of our time. Please forgive me if that's way too forward a thing to say. Having said that I'm ready to go where the Professor leads, I'm being a hypocrite by passing any judgment on it whatsoever.

I hope everyone has a marvelous break!
