Howard Hoffman, On Life: "Just because your doctor can name your condition doesn't mean that he knows what it is."

We will extend our seminar for a second semester in order to focus more deeply on these issues, and to read in these areas more comprehensively. Our sense is that further understanding of "mental illness" as another dimension of neurodiversity, and of poverty-linked health problems and accompanying educational barriers as further dimensions of socio-cultural "illness," is important to our work at the College. Over the course of the term, we hope to arrive at some action steps for sharing our learning with the broader community. These might include a workshop for interested faculty colleagues, presentations to campus groups, or possibly recommendations for revision of assessment practices.
