Introduction

Hi, I'm Francine. I'm a sophomore and English major from somewhere on the other side of the world.

The piece of technology that has had the most profound impact on me has got to be the computer. Having one has saved time, money and space that would not have been if I used paper for everything, since I enjoy drawing a lot. Digital drawing is one of the few things I am not poor-to-average at, so I have my laptops to thank for making that hobby accessible. Easy access to entertainment is also a big thing computers have, especially since coming to college where TV/books you want are not always available.

I'm conflicted over whether I want to commend the communication/social networking aspects that computers open up. It's great to talk with people you can't visit offline, especially if you moved from another country, and email makes a lot of classes run more efficiently. On the other hand, there are things I'd rather avoid... such as Facebook, which was notoriously popular at my high school. Some seniors graduated with a traumatizing 5000+ photos of themselves, and I had a good 300 tagged with my name - most all taken by other people. Getting personal friend propositions from people I don't know and/or am not likely to meet again can also be unnerving.

But in any case, my last few years around computers have been more or less enjoyable, which is good because I don't think I'm going to stop using them anytime soon.
