Hot Potatoes

Hot Potatoes is a free program available for download. It is not open-source, but it is freeware that can be used for any project. The program is actually a suite of six programs which instructors can use to generate short-answer questions, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises. While some of those question types may not be useful to instructors in higher education, Hot Potatoes FAQ section includes tutorials on writing effective questions.
