Brain neurons.

It is now recognized that brain neurons are conscious, yet they are devoid of mental properties. It seems that (conscious) living cells existed long before brains and minds came into being. Maybe all mental activity is secondary and mechanistic! This would be a difficult concept to accept because it would mean that we are all materialists and now that David Armstrong is deceased there may not be anyone else to agree with this concept.
