This is a reply to TPB1988's post/reply "Is genre really to blame?" : I would agree completely with your last few sentences, and maybe take them a step further. Isn't part of the fun of being a student discovering connections and deeper meanings for yourself? A teacher hands you a book, tells you it is mystery, and walks away. When you discover that it is more than that, you've learned something about genre for yourself, and can now overcome the limitations that do/might exist. Not everything in the world can be handed to us on a silver plater, and learning about human flaws of organization is one of those things. This is not to say that genre is completely flawed, but to provide (maybe) another perspective on how we interact with it in daily life.
