CIPA

Your post reminded me of a newspaper article I had read about CIPA, a rare genetic disorder. People with this condition do not feel pain, but they can feel touch.(http://health.howstuffworks.com/cipa.htm/printable) Most children with this disorder die before they are 3 years old, because they don't notice when they get hurt, and so can harm themselves severely on accident. This is certainly good evidence for the idea that pain is a function of the nervous system, since CIPA is a nervous system disorder.
