This looks like remarkable work-- http://prisonphotography.org/2014/03/05/prisoners-39-panel-allegorical-mural-made-from-bedsheets-hair-gel-and-stacks-of-newspapers/ --and it was on display @ The Church Studios, in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia.

"In prison artists are afforded much respect. Ironically, free society doesn’t treat artists with the same respect, but I guess we’ve already established that we’re dealing in reversals here?!"

Thanks for posting, Anne. Very interesting food for thought here. I am particularly interested in this idea of the importance of art/artists in prison. It makes me wonder about the resistance we met (or at least how the women d found the creative aspect daunting) at the Cannery..
