I though class on Monday was really interesting.  I find psychoanalysis fascinating and it was definitely thought provoking to hear everyone’s opinions.  I think that one of the reasons CBT therapy has become so popular right now is because of our culture’s obsession with the “instant fix”.  I agree with whoever said in class though, that CBT seems more like pharmacotherapy in that it treats the symptoms but may not treat the underlying cause.  In my opinion psychoanalysis is more about self-discovery, and being able to uncover the unconscious patterns that we follow in life.  I know case studies aren’t hard data, but reading “Love’s Executioner” this semester has definitely made me a believer in psychoanalysis.
